SCL are proud to be a partner of Salford’s HUGE new FREE festival, We Invented the Weekend at MediaCity and Salford Quays on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th June.

Here’s what our teams will be getting up to…

The Active Communities team will be hosting the Weekend Arena Sports Hub. There will be a huge range of sports and activities for everyone to get involved in, including football, archery, basketball, tennis, street cheer, crazy golf and much more! Booking is required for some activities, book here →

Our MAPAS team will be delivering fun Samba Workshops. Just come along and have a go playing a variety of percussion instruments and perform a samba groove! No prior experience is required. Workshops are open to all ages and places can be booked in advance here.

Join our Libraries team on the reading lawn in their pop-up library, where there’ll be books to read, borrow or listen to in a story telling session. Nearby, courtesy of CBeebies, you’ll find none other than Hacker T. Dog!

Get creative with Salford Museums & Galleries! Join artist Paul Pickford on Saturday for Life Drawing in the Fast Lane for an accessible taster to life drawing from costumed characters. On Sunday, artist Gemma Hemingway is creating a ‘Museum of You’, where you can create self-portraits out of all sorts of unusual materials and photographs of Salford’s amazing museum collections. The weekend is a time to be creative!

In addition to the SCL activities, there will over 200 free activities covering live music, sport, dancing, performances, gardening, talks & creative workshops so head over to the We invented the Weekend website to start planning your weekend!

We hope to see you there!

Salford didn’t just invent the weekend, we know how to celebrate it!
