No Barriers, Just Determination: Kiaran and Ange’s Inspiring HYROX Challenge

21st October 2026

At The Box SCL, we believe fitness should be for everyone. Our recent HYROX Simulation was a fantastic example of how a little adaptability, determination and community support can make a big difference.

Our latest HYROX Simulation brought together participants of different abilities to challenge themselves, support one another and experience the excitement of a HYROX-style event.

But one particularly inspiring story stood out.

Taking on the challenge together

When The Box SCL member Ange booked a doubles place for herself and her nephew Kiaran, there was initially some uncertainty about whether he would be able to take part.

Kiaran has cerebral palsy, which means some of the movements involved in a traditional HYROX Simulation would need to be adapted. However, his fitness wasn’t the barrier – it was simply about finding the right adjustments to allow him to participate.

Determined to make the experience accessible, our coaching team arranged to meet Kiaran ahead of the event to work through each station and identify suitable adaptations.

This included replacing the running sections with BikeErgs and making adjustments to equipment where needed.

Ange also purchased toe straps to help keep Kiaran’s feet securely in place on the bikes, which she has since generously donated to The Box for others to use in the future.

Determination every step of the way

With the adaptations in place, Kiaran and Ange were ready to take on the challenge together.

And what a performance they delivered!

The workout was tough, but Kiaran tackled every station with incredible determination and a smile on his face.

One particularly memorable moment came during the sled push, when Kiaran lost one of his shoes. Rather than stopping to put it back on, he simply kicked off the other shoe and carried on!

It was a moment that perfectly captured his determination and positive attitude, bringing smiles to everyone watching.

Together, Kiaran and Ange completed the full adapted HYROX Simulation, demonstrating that with the right support and adjustments, challenges can become opportunities. Chris Smith, Head Coach said:

At The Box SCL, we’re proud of the supportive community we’ve built, where everyone is encouraged to challenge themselves, progress at their own pace and celebrate each other’s achievements.

Kiaran and Ange’s experience is a fantastic reminder that fitness isn’t just about performance, times or results.

It’s about participation, confidence, overcoming barriers and being part of something bigger.

Their achievement also highlights the important role that our coaches play in helping people of different abilities enjoy functional fitness in a safe, supportive and welcoming environment.

A huge congratulations to Kiaran and Ange for their fantastic achievement, and a special thank you to Ange for her generous donation of equipment that will help make future sessions even more accessible.
