Details
Clifton Country Park is one of 2 country parks in Salford and offers acres of open woodland and meadows to explore. Visitors can enjoy lakeside walks, bring a picnic, go fishing or discover hidden remnants of the city’s industrial past. There’s also a great children’s play area.
The park was designated a local nature reserve in 2005 and currently holds the prestigious Green Flag Award.
Clifton is also home to the industrial remains of the Wet Earth Colliery. Established around 1740, the colliery was one of the first deep mines to be sunk in the Irwell Valley.
As well as self-guided trails, the Salford Ranger Team provide a wide range of events and activities and volunteering opportunities throughout the year.
Facilities & Getting Here
The car park is immediately next to the café, accommodating around 100 cars. There is also a small overflow just next to the railway tunnel. At peak times, the carparks do fill. While parking is possible on Clifton House Road, this can make manoeuvring difficult. Please consider emergency vehicle access when parking.
Disabled parking bays available.
Clifton Country Parks sits on the Number 22 bus route from Bolton to Trafford Centre and the Number 8 from Manchester to Bolton. The best bus stop to use is opposite Clifton Cricket Ground.
Clifton House Road sits just off the A666, much of which features a cycle lane. There are several off road routes to cycle to the park.
The park also features some 750 acres of woodlands and pathways, that are perfect to explore by bike.
Please note – not all of the paths in the park are suitable for a road bike.
