MAPAS is determined to make every school in Salford a Singing School.

To that end, we offer advice on the development of singing as part of the curriculum across a range of subjects. Supporting schools to start and develop a choir is also an important part of the work of our team.

We are able to offer vocal tuition as part of our Instrumental Tuition package. We also have a team of experienced vocal tutors who can run your school choir. Alternatively, if you have a member of school staff who is willing to set up a choir but needs support or advice on where to start, you can always get in touch with us for help.

Once you have singing embedded into school life, we organise a range of events for singers throughout the year:

  • In the Autumn term we host festive Carols and Choirs.
  • In the Spring term we organise a Choral and Vocal festival, giving choirs, soloists and small groups of singers of all ages the opportunity to perform in front of peers and adjudicators for feedback in a friendly semi-competitive atmosphere.
  • In the Summer term we hold our Big Sing event which a large scale singing project for primary school singers, with a day of workshops and prior learning which culminates in an evening performance for friends and family.

We also support schools to take part in the Greater Manchester Music Hub Singing Challenge. Each year schools are provided with a new and exciting song, especially written for Greater Manchester Schools. This year the theme will look at British Values and celebrating diversity. Schools will be encouraged to tune in and join us in song, via the local radio at 2.15pm. Are you up for the challenge?

Through our membership of the GM Music Hub we are able to offer a vocal training package ‘Singing in the Classroom’ to Salford teachers – please see the details of the courses attached on the right hand side of this page.

Keep a lookout for more information about these events!
