Divided Culture Co. is coming to a library near you!
Their new art installation will be making the rounds across Salford Libraries for the remainder of 2026. The team at Divided Culture have been asking young people around Salford, ‘What does culture mean to you?’ – with some amazing answers.
The aim is to get the community talking and reflect on the values of culture in Salford. Here’s a sneak peek of some favourites:
- ‘Things you’re taught throughout life. The silent teachings.’
- ‘The corner shop. You know they have anything and everything you need.’
- ‘Culture is what makes me feel connected to millions of people I’ll never meet… it makes me feel part of something bigger than myself.’
- ‘Walkden Tesco’s – it’s massive.’
Culture means the expression of complex, coexisting truths, the reality of how people build their lives in the quiet moments between crises. It means real voices, telling real stories, forging connections across space and time.
Divided Culture Co. was started to help tell these stories, and have seen the support from the local community who have embraced them in the five years since they started their venture.
If you’d like to share what culture means to you, come visit the installation during the library opening hours.
