Know your heritage at Height Library.
During the Heritage Open Days event we’ll have a display of old local photos of the Irlams O’Th Height area including the library and it’s history, there will be some banners exploring the National Lottery funded Eccles Old Rd heritage project, and some dress-up and easy activities for children to enjoy too!
The Height Library & Public Hall was officially opened on 29th March 1901, the land was a gift from Sir Percival Heywood as part of the Heywood estate and the library and public hall cost £6000 to build. A Bowling Green to the rear of the building was built soon after, and like the Library is still being actively used to this day.
The exhibition will be on display from Friday 6th until Sunday 15th September.
