Instructor Spotlight: Meet Alison – Zumba instructor at Worsley Leisure Centre
Tell us a bit about yourself
Hi everyone, I’m Alison, a Zumba fitness instructor based at Worsley Leisure Centre. You can find me teaching on Tuesdays at 7pm and Thursdays at 8pm.
How did your Zumba journey begin?
I first started attending Zumba classes at Swinton Leisure Centre back in 2010. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to train as an instructor the following year. I began by covering classes, and around 9 years ago I started running my regular Tuesday class.
What is Zumba, and what can people expect?
Zumba is a dance-based fitness class that combines Latin and international music to create a fun, full-body workout. It’s great for improving heart health, strength and flexibility—but it feels more like a party than exercise!
Each class lasts around 45 minutes, and you can expect to get in roughly 5,000–6,000 steps without even realising it.
What makes your classes unique?
I’m known for being quite a colourful instructor—you’ll see what I mean when you come along! I also love running themed classes for occasions like Halloween and Christmas, which are always a great laugh and really bring people together.
Who are your classes for?
Everyone is welcome, no matter your fitness level or experience. You can go at your own pace, and I always encourage a bit of freestyle if you’re unsure of the moves—just have fun with it! No dance experience needed—honestly! Most people are just following along and having a laugh. It’s a really friendly group, and new faces are always made to feel welcome.
As someone who’s neurodivergent, I understand that everyone learns and moves differently—so my classes are all about going at your own pace and feeling comfortable.
Why should someone give your class a try?
Because it doesn’t feel like a workout! It’s a great way to move, boost your mood, and meet people—all in a relaxed, supportive environment. Come along, bring a friend, and give it a try—your first class could be the start of something fun!
