We are delighted that museums and galleries can start to open from July. At Salford Museum & Art Gallery we are aiming to open at the beginning of August, with a date to be confirmed.

We are working hard to make sure our site is safe to welcome visitors, and for our staff teams to return to work. Some of the steps we will be introducing are listed below.

A busy programme of internal and external building work has taken place while we have been closed. Some of these works must be completed before we re-open so that we can operate a one way system for visitors.

We do hope you will bear with us and we will keep you updated through this webpage and also through our social media platforms.

We cannot wait to welcome you back to the museum and art gallery and have missed you all!

Here are some of the measures we are undertaking to make your visit safe:

  • Limited numbers on site and in galleries
  • Induction and training for our staff teams and a daily review of our procedures
  • New risk assessments
  • Sanitiser stations and perspex screens at tills
  • Encouraging contactless transactions
  • Regular cleaning throughout the day of all facilities and galleries
  • Facilities will be open but with fewer toilets so we can manage social distancing and cleaning
  • Take out service and pre-packed foods to begin with in the cafe
  • Removal of hands-on activities, family trails and dressing up in the short term (we are very sad about this but we will make sure you still have a fun and interesting visit!)
  • We will have limited numbers of each item on display in the shop and carry out regular cleaning of items on display
  • Library items will undergo 72 hours quarantining after use and the Local History Library will be appointments only in the short term

We will be adding more to this list and will keep it updated, and we are also keen to hear what you would like to see to help us welcome you back to the museum and art gallery. A survey will be available shortly for you to tell us your thoughts and concerns about returning to visit our venue.
