Do you love reading but feel you are short on time? Would like to connect with other readers in the community? Do you need a break from day-to-day life and feel you would enjoy sharing your reactions to fiction with others?

Our short story reading group offers a great way to discover stories in an informal, enjoyable, therapeutic way.

Two stories are discussed at each meeting, mainly online and occasionally in-person, usually held fortnightly. Meetings are led by Dr Mariana Casale, an experienced reading group facilitator and Bibliotherapist https://marianacasale.com/reading-groups/.  Mariana is a passionate believer in the mental health and well-being benefits of reading and of sharing our responses to what we read.

No qualifications or prior knowledge of the stories or writers are necessary.  All contributions to discussions are valued equally and there is no pressure placed on participants to contribute.  There are occasional opportunities to share creative writing which are entirely optional.

Copies of the stories are provided, and refreshments at in-person meetings  The fee for a session is £9. Please contact Chris Farey at chris.farey@scll.co.uk if you would like to try out a free taster session or would like more information.

  • The Walkden group meets on Tuesday evenings 7.30 – 9.00pm (online or in the library)
