At Salford Community Leisure, artistic swimming is a big part of what we offer so we are excited to see the artistic swimmers take to the pool in Paris for the Olympic games.

Our very own City of Salford Synchronised Swimming Club has many aspiring young artistic swimmers, with Regional and National Champions on the team!

If you’re inspired watching the Artistic Swimming events at the Olympic Games, Jess Fletcher, Head Coach of the Synchro team tells us how you can get into the sport.

How can I get involved?

‘The first thing to do is get in touch with your local club – City of Salford SSC are based at Irlam and Cadishead Leisure Centre.

The usual route to Synchro club, is through our Synchro Mermaid lessons (part of our SCL swimming lesson programme) and then children can progress through to Synchro Swim Stars lessons and then into our Competitive Training Scheme/Club.

Swimmers must be able to swim 50m (2 lengths) competently and be comfortable underwater – handstands/forward rolls to join the Mermaids sessions. We usually take from Stage 5 upwards’.

What are you most proud of to date?

‘The proudest moment for the club was in April this year when the club became British National Champions and won the prestigious Redwood Trophy – which is the Artistic Swimming equivalent of winning the Premier League! The team has just returned from Sheffield from the most recent competition – The Combo Cup – and won 3 golds and a bronze!’

Watch the below video as Caitlyn, Lena and Sophie (left to right) tell us below about what they love the most about being part of the artistic swimming team.

  • Caitlyn is part of the DiSE programme (Diploma in Sporting Excellence)
  • Lena is part of the GB Youth Squad
  • Sophie is part of the GB Progression Programme

All came through our SCL Synchro programme. For further information enquire here.
