Salford Museum & Art Gallery and Ordsall Hall are both a huge part of the history of Salford and are proud to be involved in commemorating the last 100 years along with Salford City Council and other partners.
The centenary starts with Your Salford 100: Celebrating a century of city pride. Salford Museum & Art Gallery has invited 100 groups and individuals from across Salford to help create an exhibition marking the city’s centenary in 2026.
Your Salford 100 showcases 100 objects and artworks from the museum’s collection, selected by the people of Salford. The exhibition includes an eclectic mix from all areas of the museum’s collection, including art, decorative arts and social history, alongside responses and stories from the participants. The 100 selectors include members of the public, community groups, staff, and local partners, artists and organisations that the museum has worked with.
Claire Corrin, Exhibitions Manager said;
‘This has been a great opportunity to learn what the people of Salford love about the collection and why. It has been exciting to see what has been chosen. It has also been an opportunity to enter discussions more widely about what people think of Salford, the museum, and its role within the community both in the past and present, and how this might look in the future.’
Join us for this very special opening event to mark the launch of exhibition Your Salford 100 on Saturday 14 February 12-3pm.
We’ve brought together a selection of local artists for a day of drop-in activities happening across the entire gallery. Come see the exhibition for yourself and then check out the different making stations we will have dotted around the building. Sign a birthday book for Salford, make a hand puppet, have a speed portrait done, and more!
Come along and be inspired by the legacy of the city as showcased in our exhibition and celebrate how much we all love Salford during this family friendly day of fun.
All the activities are FREE with no booking required. All ages welcome.
Your Salford 100 has been funded by UK Government and the Friends of Salford Museums Association.
The exhibition is open between Saturday 14 February 2026 – 10 January 2027.
Running alongside this there is also; Your Salford 100: Journeys with Pinc College. As part of the centenary celebrations students from Pinc College, who are based at Salford Museum have created an exhibition of new work inspired by the museum’s collection.
Inspired by the Your Salford 100 exhibition and themes being explored through their studies, students from Pinc College have created new artwork to display in the Park Gallery. Themes of journeys, culture and migration led the students to the idea of tea drinking and the collection of teacups at the museum.
Focusing on the patterns and designs found on the cups, students have experimented with drawing, digital art, printmaking and textiles to produce a mixture of wall based and sculptural works that are shown alongside the collection.
Visit the exhibition between14 February – 5 July 2026. Please note the Park Gallery is open weekends and school holidays only.
Salford Voices puts Salfordians firmly at the heart of the centenary celebrations. Community groups and Salford artists have worked together to create a brand-new podcast, art exhibition and pop-up events that showcase the city. Exploring past, present and future, they take you on the journey of a brave, northern city that’s got a lot to say and loads to offer.
Textile artists Chris Alton and Emily Simpson have collaborated with residents at Broughton Community Centre to help design a banner marking 100 years of Salford’s city status. Through hands-on activities and open conversation, they celebrate the voices that shape our community and discover how banners have been used to express shared values and local pride.
Salford Voices has been created by Chris Alton and Emily Simpson in collaboration with Broughton Community Centre, commissioned by Art with Heart. This project has been made possible by the generous support of the GMCA and The Booth Charities. It has been funded by UK Government with support from Salford CVS and Salford Council. A special thanks to For Housing, Salford and partner, Reform Radio.
Salford Voices will run from Saturday February 21st to Sunday May 10th 2026
At the end of March Contemporary Narratives will launch at Salford Museum & Art Gallery.
As part of the centenary celebrations, several artists have come together to present a group exhibition of new work inspired by Salford and the museum’s collection. With a focus on printmaking and textiles, the exhibition will showcase the artists’ work alongside the objects and artworks that have inspired them.
Artists: Louisa Boyd; Sharon Brown; Immaterial Collective (Claire Batt, Nerissa Cargill Thompson, Louise Ann Clarke, Alena Ruth Donely, Lowri Evans, Claire Hignett, Jane Lawson and Lee Smith); and Northern Contemporary Printmakers (Caitlin Akers, Michael Hitchens and Mandy Tolley)

At Ordsall Hall this summer, a new exhibition presents 100 photographs, picked by 100 people from Salford, taken in the last 100 years. Local history enthusiasts from across the city have used Digital Salford to select their favourite image. Along with their personal stories about their chosen image, the photos show a personal and community history of the city.
You can view the photographs from 14 June 2026 to 30 May 2027.
