Meet Kristian Bolton, a dedicated SCL member for nearly two years, whose fitness journey will inspire us all. Since January 2025, Kristian has shed an incredible 15kg, allowing him to stop taking blood pressure medication and acid reflux tablets. His secret? A winning combination of consistent hard work in the gym, diverse group exercise classes, and a healthier diet. Here’s how Kristian got there — and how group classes helped him along the way.
What inspired you to join SCL and give group exercise classes a try?
“I wanted to make a serious change to my health and fitness — and joining SCL was the best decision I’ve made. I was looking for a motivating environment that would hold me accountable and push me to do better. Group exercise classes caught my eye because they offer structure, variety, and the buzz of working out alongside others, which keeps me focused.”
How do the gym and classes fit into your lifestyle?
“The gym has become a cornerstone of my weekly routine. I schedule workouts around my work schedule, balancing group classes with solo gym sessions. It’s more than just physical exercise — it’s a mental reset that boosts my energy and mood throughout the week.”
You attend a broad range of classes — Body Pump, Spinning, Pilates, HIIT Step, Circuit — what do you enjoy about mixing it up?
“The variety is what keeps me hooked. Each class offers something unique, strength, cardio, flexibility — and mixing it up keeps things fresh, prevents boredom, and helps me develop a well-rounded fitness base.”
Some men might feel that classes like Pilates or Body Pump aren’t for them. What would you say to guys hesitant to try?
“Don’t knock it until you try it! Pilates and Body Pump have been game-changers for me — building strength, improving posture, and boosting flexibility. These benefits are essential for overall fitness and injury prevention. Plus, the classes are welcoming and designed for all fitness levels, so you can go at your own pace.”
How have group classes impacted your fitness and health?
“I’ve seen huge improvements in strength, stamina, and flexibility. The weight loss and energy boost have been incredible, but the social support from classes keeps me consistent — and that consistency is key. It’s about long-term, sustainable change.”
Have different classes helped improve specific areas like strength, flexibility, or endurance?
“Definitely. Body Pump has been great for building strength, Spinning and HIIT Step ramp up my cardio, and Pilates strengthens my core and improves flexibility. Together, they make me a stronger, more well-rounded athlete.”
What advice do you have for men who are thinking about trying group classes but haven’t yet?
“Just give it a go! Everyone starts somewhere, and the instructors are there to help. It’s about showing up and putting in the effort, not being perfect. You’ll surprise yourself with what you can achieve — and you might even enjoy it more than you expect. Plus, it’s a great way to meet new people.”
What keeps you coming back to SCL and these group classes?
“The supportive community, the variety of classes, and the visible progress I’m making. The positive atmosphere and encouragement from instructors and members make every session something to look forward to. Since January, I’ve lost 15kg, stopped my blood pressure and acid reflux meds, and feel better than ever. Hard work in the gym and a balanced diet really do pay off — shout out to Body Pump, Spinning, Pilates, HIIT Step, and Circuit classes! My doctor is just as pleased as I am!”
