This programmes sees all year 4 children (ages 8-9) taking part in a weekly musical instrument lesson together as a class.
The lessons take place for the whole school year and in July 2024 MAPAS invited the children in their classes to perform what they had learnt to an audience at the Lowry Theatre, Salford Quays.
Over 1000 children took part in ten concerts over 5 days, playing Instruments ranging from the trumpet to flute to ukulele to steel pans. The children also had the opportunity to perform with a live band, featuring professional musicians working with MAPAS.
Tina Parsons, Head of Music and Performing Arts Salford said:
“It was amazing to have so many children come and take part in the concerts at the Lowry. We believe it is important for the children to have the opportunity to showcase what they have been learning over the school year and celebrate their achievements. Performing to an audience can help to build children’s confidence and what a better place to do it than the most prestigious theatre in Salford.
The atmosphere across the 5 days was fantastic and all the children and guests had a wonderful time.”
One of the parents of a child performing said:
“It was wonderful to come and watch our daughter perform today. It was a fabulous production and really did make the children feel special. We are so proud of what our daughter has achieved over the school year and thanks to MAPAS she has found a new passion in music.”
MAPAS organises musical and performing arts provision for children and young people across the Salford region, in schools, after school and during holiday periods.
