Meet Karli Durrant, an inspiring SCL member based at Swinton and Worsley Leisure Centres who has been with us for over 7 years. Following treatment for Breast Cancer in 2021, Karli joined the SCL Active Lifestyles Programme, ‘CAN-Move’ in March last year, which is a Cancer Rehabilitation Programme, after seeing it advertised and thought it would be a great, safe way to get back into the gym.

‘I joined the programme and began to attend a number of the CAN-Move sessions and started to use the gym again, following an exercise programme tailored for me, so was safe for my health needs, which all helped to build up my strength and energy levels. I particularly enjoyed the circuits and Tai Chi classes and the well-being walks. The combination of different classes and regular guided gym sessions really helped me to continue to enjoy exercise whilst adjusting to life after cancer treatment.

Now I’m an SCL member again outside of the CAN-Move programme, I mainly use the gym, following the workouts set for me during my CAN-Move programme, plus I continue to enjoy the benefits of circuits and Tai Chi.

As my fitness has improved, I have recently attended a Tabata class, and the instructor Danielle has been really helpful in advising me how to continue to further modify the exercises to suit my needs after surgery. I’m looking forward to getting back to attending a variety of classes again’.

Karli, has recently taken part in two amazing challenges this autumn, raising money for The Christie Hospital. At the start of September, she completed The Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge, covering 28 miles from car to car. Then two weeks later, climbed Snowdon!  Absolutely incredible achievements and we wish Karli all the best on her fitness and recovery journey.

CAN-Move, part of SCL’s Active Lifestyles Programme, is a Cancer Rehabilitation Programme, offering a number of safe and effective Physical and Exercise Opportunities to anyone who has had a Cancer Diagnosis.
