Outdoor and adventurous activities enable pupils to enjoy challenging and unfamiliar experiences that test and develop their physical, social and personal skills. They can be among the most memorable experiences for pupils of their school days.

These are just some of the benefits of young people taking part in high quality outdoor and adventurous activities at Salford Watersports Centre:

  • Pupils adopt a positive attitude to challenge and adventure
  • They gain personal confidence and self-esteem through taking part in challenges and achieving success
  • They develop self awareness and social skills and learn to appreciate the contributions and achievements of other people in their group
  • Acquiring a range of skills in our various watersports and outdoor activities
  • Development of their key skills of communication, problem solving, leadership and team work

At Salford Watersports Centre, we can offer your group:

  • Sailing
  • Windsurfing
  • Raft Building
  • Canoeing
  • Kayaking
  • Indoor/Outdoor Climbing
  • Orienteering, plus much more!
Note – some activities may be more suitable than others during the cold winter months, especially for younger or more inexperienced groups. Please contact the centre for advice for the most suitable activity for your groups needs.

Pupils can follow a multi activity programme, or they can do a ‘sport specific’ programme and work towards an NGB (national governing body) qualification.

All of our sessions and courses are flexible to meet your needs and can be tailored to meet the requirements of the national curriculum key stage 2, 3 and 4 as well as the GCSE syllabus.

Orienteering in schools

Our six week orienteering in schools programme is suitable for primary aged children. Courses start in the classroom or school hall with basic map reading and orienteering skills. By the final week pupils should be confident in working on a full scale orienteering course that is set up around your school grounds. If you have not used this service before, you will require a map producing for your school grounds.

Educational and community groups

Instructor to participant ratio is 1:8 for our standard activities, bellboating can operate on a 1:10 basis. For climbing on our wall we can work on either a 1:8 ratio or a 2:12 ratio.

Groups are charged an hourly rate for each instructor that they hire. For watersports activities, you need to book at least 1.5 hours, as your booking time includes the time for getting briefed and changed into wetsuits. Prices vary for different types of groups. Our staff are experienced with working with a wide range of groups including those in mainstream education as well as those with behavioural issues, learning difficulties and physical or mental disabilities.

Prices apply to schools, colleges, educational establishments, scouts, guides and other community and voluntary groups which are a registered charity. Any other groups will need to pay our group prices.

For details about prices, further information or to make a booking, please contact the watersports team on 0161 877 7252 or at watersports@scll.co.uk and we will be happy to help.
