It’s an exciting time of change for school swimming in Salford.

We believe that every child in Salford should have the opportunity to learn to swim in primary school and following national statistics, it was revealed that 30% of children leaving primary school cannot swim.

We have reviewed how our lessons are delivered and have introduced our new one hour lesson programme supported by two level 2 qualified Swimming Teachers.  The main thrust of this change has been to make the programme more attractive to schools and to drive up KS2 attainment and early signs are really positive.

All the children in our programme follow the National Teaching Plan for swimming and the aim is that each child will achieve Key Stage 2 standard prior to leaving primary school.

What the schools swimming package provides

  • A teacher ratio of 1:20 for all children attending the schools swimming programme.
  • Scheme of work lesson plans for all levels
  • Individual pupil assessments by the lead teachers
  • A full monitoring and evaluation system
  • Provision of a schools swimming gala in the final term of the year.

About our swimming teachers

Our swimming teachers are passionate and enthusiastic to deliver the very best for your children. They are all Amateur Swimming Association Level Two qualified and are required to attend several CPD sessions per annum to top up their qualification and ensure that they are kept abreast with modern aquatic teaching methods and techniques.  The teams are led by a lead teacher who will ensure that the National Teaching Plan is delivered and that all lesson plans are evaluated and up to date. The lead teachers also assist in stretching the pupils swimming education if they so wish by developing links between the schools programme and the out of school Learn to Swim programme.
